I have been suckered,last thursday I was at the theatre doing the box Office and when I came out the dogs trust had a display on in the market place,I stopped by and they had a couple of dogs in need of rehoming with them and were handing out leaflets .One of the dogs was a german short hair pointer , I told john about it and we went to look today,we were going to look and see if the pointer was there and if not if there were any nice quite dogs that would keep basil happy .We got there and the pointer had been taken so we had a look round and there in one cage was a god awful ugly lurcher bright ginger, hair all vile and stragly jumping up and down with it's hand in the air shouting Pick me Pick me oo oo oo miss miss pick me,Basil is going tomorrow to meet him and if they get on well we will be the slightly embarrassed owners of a ginger lurcher called Jamie ( the name may have to go theres a kid at my sons school called Jamie who I call pigboy I am not sure I can disassociate the name.If Basil and Jamie don't get on then theres a rather nice lurcher called tpny that I was voted down on that we may see

what's a lurcher?
its a greyhound cross bred for chasing rabbits the bigger ones can bring down deer lots of them end up abandoned because people breed then indescriminately.This one is quite grotesquely ugly but he seems to have a nice nature h';s been in the dogs home on and off for two years because people find he needs too much excercise but my dogs always get a couple of hours a day free running so hopefully he should be ok with us

The only time I saw a dog referred to as a lurcher was in a james herriot book years ago , Now I know what it is . allan

I don't know anything about dogs, but I have heard many times that lurchers are the most loyal of dogs.
yes but thats cos you read too much jilly cooper ,,the meeting went well,we have to go to a talk about rehoming on saturday and them jamie has a final vet check and we can bring him home on sunday,we didn't have to have a home visit because our vet gave us a reference which was nice of him I am off to ebay now to find him a nice collar and tag so he looks all spiffy for his first blog appearence ( jamie that is not tim the vet,tim the vet always looks spiffy)
I know and we were going to get another small poodle but then the dogs home people were in town and there were pictures of miserable dogs so we just went and had a look and now basils got a new pal and a little orphaned unwanted ugly dog will be spoiled to death.He's not very big only about your mollies size ,you will have to come over and meet him.when we left the dogs home today he tried to come with us ,6 months is a long time for an ugly dog to be in a cage unwanted.

You dodged a bullet with the german short haired pointer being taken. We had one when I was a kid, he was MEAN!!! He would lay stretched out all along the entire couch and if anyone tried to sit on the couch he'd snarl and chase them off.
PLUS, he had the worst gas. He was always farting and they stunk so bad it was like he was moving in his own little fog of stink.
I have never read a Jilly Cooper in my life. I don't like people with gaps between thier front teeth.

That's a very nice thing to do...and you're lucky he doesn't have a case manager, or it would be months until you get him!
I haven't thought of Terry Thomas in AGES......I always liked him
