I have been toying of late with changing my name , not my last name my first name . I have never liked Alex very much its short it's, curt and it sounds like a bloke. I was wondering if changing ones name could change ones personality . Few people call me anything other than Alex or mum or weasle . A couple of people in pub quiz call me Lexi which like a lot more than Alex ,Lexi doesn't sound like a man for a start which has to be a bonus but if I took up Lexi as my first name would my personality change with it would I become fluffier and less sarcastic or would I remain Alex just answering to another name .Would I remember to answer if someone called me Lexi? Allan I look forward to your input on this since you were the one who said People needed to stop calling me mum and start calling me by my name

I'm certain that a name has the potential to change how others view you, though probably not how you view yourself. Why change to a variation on your current name though? Change complettely and see what responses you get to Iris or Chardonnay for instance. You could just ask commenters to leave suggestions for your new name. I think you should go for Mavis ;)

ha I couldn;t be mavis thats the rabbits name

You can have my name. I'd like to be an Alex. I always wanted a name that came with built in nicknames. 'Trace' doesnt really cut it as a nickname.
I know 2 Lexis. One was killed by her deranged ex the other is a perky little gymnast. Oh and the third one is busy filling up her calendar with large penises.

If Lexi is what you want us to call you, then Lexi it is.
You only had to say.
Mind you, my memory is worse than usual at the mo so I just hope I remember.

Actually Alex I never suggested other people stop calling you "mum". What I asked was "is it ok for me to stop calling you Mum and start calling you Alex " and you said yes so I switched names . Mum always seemed so old ladyish to me but I never would have switched without your permission as I saw the Alex handle as far more personal and it seemed reserved for "friends" . Being a mere aquientance I didn't want to seem foward .

As far as Lexi is concerned I would suggest you don't go that route . It reminds me far too much of an automobile name . If I remember right Emmawrites ( another truely foolish name I might add, rememeber when people in the chat always used to ask Emma what she 'wrote" and she would get all pissed off and say "fuck off (insert screen name )has a Lexi she begged off her rich sister , something like that . Maybe she has an Audi , I forget .

I would stick with Alex . Its a lovely name.

allan, oy. emma used to say she writes children's stories when people asked her, she has a lexus her sister gave her, i doubt there was begging involved, as emma's sister is kind and liked to give stuff to all her relations and just happens to have the money to do it with. why do you always diss emma for making herself happy by accepting gifts and making her sister happy by accepting them from her sister?

on the name front, i vote for Kany Appel.

Oh I have no problem with Emma and her sister Jilly and actually this was the first time I have mentioned it . It just fit well into my post . I'm all for sharing the wealth with relatives . Honestly I wish Emmas sister was my sister instead .

But I beg to differ on your other point . If I remember right Emma used to get pissy when people asked her what she wrote . True it was many years ago but if my memory serves me I'm pretty sure the first time I ever was told "fuck off Al " was when I asked her what she writes. Of course I could be confused . Those were heady days in the chat and with so much going on I may be confusing things and offer my sincere appologies if thats the case . Allan

I love the name Alex. I've always wanted a female name that normally would be a guy's name. If Braden had been a girl, we were going to name her Andie.

personally i think the name petunia snudgeybottom is perfect for you alex, but then ive always been weird

I have never called you mum and don't think calling you mum does you any favours, as there are enough men in your household that give you that title already.

I like the name Alex, because it sounds classy. You never hear a chav saying "Ere, our Alex, go down the chippy and get us some mushy peas and a bag of chips"...you would however hear somebody with good taste saying "Crack open another tin of Beluga Alex, there's a sweetheart".

I call you Meme, and it doesn't seem to bother you.
Lexi is a stupid name--a made up name--you might at well call yourself "Apple" or "Moxie Crimefighter." Lexi sounds like a sprite or fairy in a bad children's story--and my niece has a cat named Lexi so that should put you off right there.

Sparky,

Sometimes I'd respond "fuck off" when people asked me what I wrote. Sometimes I'd say "Obituaries" sometimes I'd say "Porn" other times "Catholic doctrine"--it depended upon my mood. People who'd ask a chatroom "EmmaWrites" deserve a creative answer. Stupid people would also ask a/s/l S???? An "emma"? sheesh.

You're just pissy because people always assumed that a Vanda52 would be a female. It's been 8 years since you were a "52" so maybe it's time to change your name.

I like the name "Alex" or "Alexandra" -- how elegant ---how posh.

Actually I like having the female name tho I will admit i didn't at first . It's led to some very interesting experiences online . allan

I like Alex too. Lexi, for some reason, makes me think of that girl from American Beauty -- the little blonde girl with the weird eyes.

I've always liked simple names -- Ann, Olivia, Emily. I can see you as an Emily or an Olivia.

As alex well knows my 2 favorite names are Elizabeth and Alexandria and she has them both , allan

Lexi sounds like a hooker

Alex is a nice name

What makes you like a bloke is the massive penis and set of bollox you have

Lexi makes me think of Russian male gymnasts and ballet dancers, but then I am a little off.

How about Xandra?

I like Alex too.

You don't want a fluffy name, especially if you visit Cornwall again. ;-)
